Ian King

Championship Coaching Pedigree

Coach Ian King brings championship tradition, proven teaching methods, and a passion for developing young athletes both on and off the court.

Coach King has learned from and worked alongside some of the most respected minds in basketball. Rooted from the legendary Ed McCluskey coaching tree, a coaching lineage responsible for:

  • 18 Pennsylvania (PIAA) State Championships

  • 40+ District Titles

  • Multiple conference championships in the PAC-12, Big East, Big XII, and SEC

  • 4 NCAA Final Four appearances

Coaching Philosophy

Coach King’s philosophy is built on the belief that the lessons learned in basketball extend far beyond the court. He teaches transferable skills—discipline, teamwork, and decision-making—that help athletes succeed both in sports and in life.

To him, basketball is a reflection of life itself:

Opportunities aren’t given. They’re created and earned.

He focuses on helping players learn how to create those opportunities through:

  • Effective off-ball movement

  • Smart on-ball decision-making

  • Team-first mentality

Offensive Approach

The heart of Coach King's system is the Spread Motion Offense, a player-led style that teaches athletes how to think, read defenses, and play together without

relying on scripted plays.

This system allows athletes to maximize their individual strengths while making the team stronger as a whole.

Through this approach, players develop:

  • Understanding spacing and timing

  • The ability to read defenses

  • Skills in passing, cutting, and screening

Defensive Approach

Coach King’s defense is rooted in doing the small fundamental things exceptionally well. His teams play as a unit, where players work in unison and amplify each other’s strengths.

His defensive system develops:

  • On-ball defensive discipline

  • 1-pass denial and spacing

  • 2-pass help-side principles

Player Development by Age

Coach King takes a long-term development approach, building athletes step by step, with an emphasis on fundamentals, passion, and readiness.

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade: Fundamentals first. Players focus on skill-building, confidence, and love for the game—no scoreboards, no standings.

3rd through 5th Grade: Competitive games are introduced alongside the Spread Motion Offense, when players are physically ready for higher-level play.

6th Grade & Up: Advanced concepts like Zone Defense and how to attack zone defenses are introduced to prepare athletes for middle and high school competition.

Why Coach King?

For Coach King, basketball is more than a game. Under his leadership, players learn discipline, teamwork, and confidence, building the foundation to succeed in any challenge they face. Coach King aims to mentor each athlete with care, teaching lessons on and off the court that shape not just stronger players, but stronger people.
